A COWDENBEATH drink driver has landed a hefty fine after he collided with a parked vehicle.

Greg Hatten was fined £2600 and disqualified from driving for three years and eight months at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Hatten, 26, of Foulford Street, previously admitted that on September 14 on Townhill Road, Dunfermline, he was driving a mechanically propelled vehicle while unfit to drive through drink or drugs and being the driver of a motor vehicle and an accident having then and there occurred owing to the presence of the car and whereby damage was caused to another motor car, and did fail to stop and give his name and address.

Depute fiscal, Carrie Stevens, explained to the Court that just after 2am the owner of the damaged car was awoken by a noise coming from outside and saw Hatten sitting in a Range Rover.

"He turned off the engine and sat in the car for a few minutes before driving off again," she said.

"He stopped again a few houses up the same road and when the car owner's husband came outside to look, he could see the accused was staggering and couldn't walk in a straight line.

"The couple saw that their car was damaged so contacted the police.”

Officers could also see that the accused was under the influence of alcohol.

Defence solicitor, Brian Tait, explained that Hatten is a father to a young child with his partner.

"The couple had the opportunity to go out and his partner decided she would be the designated driver but then consumed alcohol.

"Their relationship has deteriorated, she went off and got a taxi home, but he made the foolish decision to drive as he knew that he needed the car for work the next day.

"There was far more damage to his vehicle then the other car. He has had to pay £6,000 in damages because he has a hire purchase deal.

"It was foolish of him and very much regrets it."
