PUPILS and staff at Lochgelly High School are delighted today to unveil the final total raised at their 30th anniversary Game-a-thon, which took place a few weeks ago.

Pupils committed to spend 24 hours playing an assortment of games in order to celebrate the school’s proud history and to raise money for their chosen charities: The Polar Academy, Macmillan Cancer Support and Anthony Nolan.

The school has been overwhelmed by the response from pupils, parents, and the wider community, and are now thrilled to announce that through sponsorship, donations and gift aid a fantastic £4,200 has been raised!

And, as an extra bonus, JustGiving.com have just named Lochgelly High School in the top 5% of fundraisers in the UK for August 2017!

This amazing achievement came as a result of 24 hours of outdoor sports, retro arcade games, console games, classic board games and even a dance competition.

Pupils selected their favourite activities and then got to work finding sponsors and creating a buzz of excitement about the event.

Some 70 dedicated senior pupils spent the night in the school playing games until a lone piper, Daniel Clemison (S5), heralded the dawn at 5am.

The event culminated in a massed pipe band of present and former band members who paraded proudly around the school campus cheered on by tired, but still enthusiastic, staff, pupils and parents. Pupils, staff and parents also took part in the Lochgelly Gala the following day on their very own custom-built float.

Carol Ann Penrose, Rector of Lochgelly High School, said: “The whole weekend was wonderful and I was bowled over by the enthusiasm of both pupils and staff as well as the fabulous support we received from the wider community”.

The school would like to say a special thank you to Bob Purvis and Bob Garmory, of Purvis Plant Hire, for their tireless and enthusiastic support of the Game-a-thon and are hugely grateful to all the other local businesses who kindly made donations or sponsored the event: Fife Fabrication; Macari's; The Co-op Stores in Lochgelly, Lochore & Bowhill; John Gilfillan Funeral Directors; John Young Signs; Recycle Fife; Cartmore Building Supplies; Nisa Extra, Lochgelly; Tone & Tan; Serenity; Fife Flowers; The Lochore Institute; The Woodside Hotel; Wee Jimmies; Partners Bar; The Village Inn; Craigie Bar; Orebank Plumbing & Heating; The LHS Parent Council; AD Ceramics; Baynes; The Golden Fry; Caspian; Zak's and Tony's.
