IT WAS hair today, gone tomorrow for one Benarty Primary youngster this week as she showed her support for one of her friends.

Cooper Davidson had her locks chopped off to raise money for charity and show solidarity for classmate Kaitlin Duncan who is currently battling leukaemia.

The school's depute head, Anne Wilson, said they were proud of both of the primary six children.

"Over £800 has been raised and she got her hair cut off as it is being donated to the Princess Trust which makes wigs for people who are suffering from cancer," she said.

"Our school values are being fair, honest, ambitious and respectful and in assembly this week, Cooper talked about how she was showing respect and care by raising money like this and showing that she really cared.

"Kaitlin is going to be going through intensive chemotherapy over the next wee while. She has been at school but is going to have times when she is off and she is in part-time at the moment.

"The nurse is going to come in and talk to the children about why Kaitlin lost her hair. That was another reason for this as Cooper wanted to have her hair cut as well to support Kaitlin so they will both be a bit different.

"It shows a real commitment and friendship and having respect for someone else and for what she is going through. The whole class is very supportive."
