BENARTY football star Lucy Graham said that making a dream debut for Scotland was a "memory to last a lifetime".

Last month Times Sport told you that the talented 20-year-old midfielder was one of just two uncapped players to be named in new head coach Shelley Kerr's first squad for a challenge match in Hungary.

The game, which took place on Thursday, was held as part of the senior women's team's preparations for the start of their World Cup qualifying campaign and provided Hibernian Ladies' midfielder Lucy with her first cap.

With the Scots leading 2-0 at half-time in Budapest thanks to goals from Lana Clelland and Claire Emslie, Lucy was introduced six minutes after the break for Joanne Love.

Watched on by her family, she was inches away from rounding off her special afternoon with a debut goal when she rattled the Hungarian crossbar with a fierce drive from the edge of the box.

A victory on her maiden appearance was secured, however, when Jane Ross rounded off a 3-0 success in the final minute, and afterwards a delighted Lucy tweeted: "Thrilled to get my first senior cap tonight, made even more special having my family in the stand watching on, memory to last a lifetime #SWNT".

Lucy, who in February was named as Benarty's Young Citizen of the Year, has represented Scotland at various youth levels.

She won 16 caps and scored five goals for the under-19s and received her first call-up to the senior squad in April under previous head coach Anna Signeul for a friendly in Belgium.

She was an unused substitute in the 5-0 defeat but, with Signeul leaving her post after the European Championships and key players such as goalkeeper and skipper Gemma Fay, Ifeoma Dieke and Leanne Ross retiring, Kerr has handed her the chance to stake her claim to step into the squad.

The former St Columba's High School pupil, who has previously played with Dunfermline's youth side, Forfar Farmington and Swedish outfit Mallbackens IF, will hope to be involved when Scotland begin their campaign to reach the 2019 World Cup in France.

The Scots begin with a double-header against Belarus and Albania, with Switzerland and Poland also in the group.
