POLICE raided addresses in Lochgelly and Lochore on Wednesday as part of Operation Prospect.

Fife Police says that Operation Prospect is aimed at tackling the supply of illicit drugs and the impact of substance misuse on communities.

Wednesday saw a major operation in the West Fife village of Oakley while raids were made in Lochore and Lochgelly as well as Dunfermline.

Five people were taken into custody through Operation Prospect on Wednesday.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Cunningham explained that Wednesday's event proved successful: "This was part of our commitment to targeting drug crime and a quantity of herbal cannabis, and a small amount of methadone, with a combined estimated street value of over £5000 were seized with five people being interviewed in connection with the inquiries."

He added: "I would like to thank the public for their support and re-assure residents that we are committed to removing drugs from our communities and tackling associated criminality.

"Information from the public is vital in helping us achieve this and can be passed on to Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Area Commander for the Dunfermline, South Fife and Cowdenbeath area, Chief Inspector Irene Ralston, said that Wednesday's raids came from locally gathered intelligence.

She added: "In terms of drug dealing in the community, what can be particularly disturbing is people having callers, people going back and forward to houses.

"If people have real concerns to what is going on in their locality they should raise it with us or with the housing team."
