WHILST attending to my ablutions on the morning of July 31 a cacophony of high artillery assaulted my car at 8am.

This heavy assault comprised congregating lorries and cranes parked opposite on the near pavement on Foulford Road by E J Douglas. I attempted to rationalise why they were there but could not.

There seemed to be extensive digging going on the opposite side of the road near house 31 but I am afraid I did not see the significance of it, not indeed what it achieved, despite the exercise lasting in excess of eight hours.

As far as I was aware the road opposite was already in good nick!

Could I ask, why were local residents not told of possible noisy disruption which commenced at 8am and last until 5pm.

Secondly, traffic on Foulford Road was subsequently held back during the nine hour period. I managed to escape by Leuchatsbeath Drive and Perth Road.

Thirdly, I was expecting a mail order delivery which was compromised by heavy lorries parked for nearly five hours, two feet from my front gate.

Fourthly I phoned E J Douglas later in the day only to find that they had been sub-contracted by Fife Council to undertake the this (necessary?) work. It is still not clear what they actually achieved or indeed what benefits we can accrue from this heavy duty exercise.

Fifthly, at the very least could not someone from the council have notified those locally affected in advance via a notice of impending inconvenience? Perhaps some were, certainly I was not.

Sixthly, I continue to be perplexed by what appears to be a meaningless exercise.

There are plenty of better candidates for repair work on Cowdenbeath's roads.

The views of Councillor Alistair Bain and Fife Council Transport Services would be appreciated.

JAMES MARTIN,

Foulford Road,
