THIS session, the students at Lochgelly High School have shown their leadership at every level and what better way to finish off the year than by leading the end-of-year Awards Ceremonies?

Rector Carol Ann Penrose said that she felt that everyone will agree that they did an outstanding job in organising them.

The Senior Phase Ceremony was conducted by Thomas Alexander, Bethany Polanski, Remmi Robertson and Kyle Pate, the Pupil Leadership Team from Session 16/17.

They brought booming voices, personality and humour to the stage.

She added: "We were also exceptionally lucky to have Tricia Marwick as our guest speaker, whose words of wisdom resonated with our students. What an accomplished woman, whose determination, perseverance and achievements are an inspiration to us all.

"The awards saw students receive awards for Academic Achievement, Outstanding Achievement, Personal Academic Best, Developing the Young Workforce and for specific trophies, including the Jack Yuile Memorial Award for this year’s DUX, Niamh Logie.

"These categories were adapted by the students this session and, excitingly, further work will be conducted by the school’s Pupil Improvement Committee to take this forward next session. Look out for more pupil leadership in this area!

"Our Broad General Education Awards ceremony was also a day to remember. Eight of our students led this ceremony and braved the stage to complete roles normally carried out by teachers or the Senior Leadership Team. Therefore, we would like to say a big Lochgelly well done to Daisy Bathgate, Amber-Louise Fernie, Lewis Graham, Kally Kinnell, Jack Malvenan, Bailey Lee Robb, Krystine Shand and Connor Woods.

"S1-S3 students were wonderful to work with and to those award winners who were out competing at local and national events on the day, well done and we will see you there next year!

"Finally, an enormous thank you must go to the dancers, Drama students, Wind Band, Steel Band and fabulous Lochgelly High School Pipe band for adding that extra special atmosphere to the event".

Headteacher, Carol Ann Penrose, added: “This year’s Awards Ceremonies have celebrated the many achievements of our young people and demonstrate how their hard work and self-belief has paid off.

"Our students are fantastic and a real credit to themselves, their families and their school. What a brilliant way to end an amazing year. I look forward to even further success in 2017-18!

"Well done again to all involved!"
