AN appeal has gone out to the Cowdenbeath community to help preserve one of the town's beauty spots.

This comes only days before the Beautiful Fife judges come to assess Cowdenbeath's assets for the annual awards.

There have been several incidents since the beginning of 2017 which have concerned both Cowdenbeath Environment Group and the Community Police team.

Now the police are upping their patrols at the Community Woodland following a series of incidents.

There have been reported problems of youth disorder in this Cowdenbeath beauty spot which has continued the long terms concerns of the town's Environment Group.

This week it was announced community police officers and Fife Council community safety officers will be working in partnership to patrol the area of the Community Woodland situated adjacent to the B981 between the town and Crossgates.

In recent weeks, the police have received a number of complaints from members of the public relating to incidents of youth disorder, vandalism and wilful fire-raising.

Concerns have also been raised regarding the illegal use of quad bikes and other off road vehicles in the Woodland.

Community Sergeant Caine McIntyre, commented: “We would like to kindly remind persons using the Cowdenbeath Community Woodland to do so responsibly and respectfully.

"I would urge local residents to help us reduce the anti-social behaviour by contacting 101 to report any offending behaviour, they may come across.”

The extensive area of the Woodland is attractive mix of woodland much valued by the local community which sees many people regularly walking through and is home to a pond, deer and a variety of local birdlife.

It is also popular with local dog walkers and runners also.

The Environment Group is hoping that the public can help the patrols head off the problems in the Woodland.
