A PUBLIC meeting has been called for Wednesday July 5 to discuss the recent fall out from flaring issues at the Mossmorran petro-chemical site..

The Action Group that has been pieced together from local volunteers has called the meeting which will be held at Lochgelly Town Hall from 7pm to 9pm.

The Action Group was formed after the recent flaring episodes at the Exxon/Mobil plant there and they hope that the meeting will help alleviate any local fears and identify any new issues that need addressed.

James Glen, from Loch of Shining Waters explained where the Action Group idea came from: “Our board members have been working with individuals in Auchtertool and Lochgelly, and reaching out to residents in the Cowdenbeath and Lumphinnans area to form an action group to better represent residents and seek redress for some of the long-term negative impacts caused by operations at Mossmorran.

"Some within our communities are concerned that c?ouncillors are inert on this major issue, and feel that the corporations have run roughshod over our local communities for years.

"ExxonMobil deny there are any health impacts, yet offer no definitive study to back-up their claims. The corporation and some of our councillors focus solely on air quality impacts and ignore the immediate and measurable impacts from the noise, vibration and light pollution that residents are forced to endure with little respite and no compensation.”

George Kinnell, treasurer of Shining Waters said: "The Mossmorran facilities are ageing so it is no surprise that ?we have again been in the midst of a major "process upset" or extended period of emergency flaring".

The Action Group hope that representatives from Exxon/Mobil, Shell, who operate the neighbouring NGL plant, will take up the invitation to attend the meeting along with Councillor Alistair Bain, who is the Cowdenbeath Area Committee's representative on issues affecting Mossmorran.
