COWDENBEATH MSP, Annabelle Ewing, has written to the Cabinet Sectretary for the Environment regarding the recent flaring at the Mossmorran chemical plant on the outskirts of the town.

Over the past week there have been periods of flaring following problems with the production process at the Exxon/Mobil ethane cracker, as part of the plant's safety mechanism.

A number of points of concern have been raised by people in Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly.

Speaking today Ms Ewing said: “I am aware that the recent flaring at Mossmorran has been causing much anxiety in my constituency and I share many of the concerns that have been expressed to me.

“I have written to the Cabinet Secretary for the Environment regarding what action the Scottish Government can take in regard to the situation, for example through SEPA.

“I am also arranging a meeting at Mossmorran so that I can discuss, first hand, on site, with representatives of operators Exxon/Mobil the concerns that I have.”
