WHILE a great deal of good things are happening in Lochgelly there is some concern about unsocial behaviour in the town's public park as its facilities get better and better.

The May meeting of Lochgelly Community Council received a very informative presentation from Lorraine Mullen, the Fife Council Community Worker and it was during this the problems were outlined.

Lorraine spoke enthusiastically about her commitment to support the whole community across the town.

They have established a youth club in the Lochgelly Centre and are looking to expand this to more age groups and on more days of the week.

Lorraine also highlighted the need to increase access to community education programmes which can help people back into employment.

She spoke about the exciting developments across the town and was looking forward to working with the new Gala committee developing this year's celebrations in August.

Community Councillors asked what action could be taken to deal with the increase in anti-social behaviour in the Public Park, particularly on Saturday evenings.

Complaints of underage drinking was just one of the issues.

Lorraine responded that this type of problem was all too prevalent across many communities.

Unfortunately there wasn’t an easy solution, but said that they will be looking at re-establishing the blue light discos and working with the local Police Officers to tackle the problem of under-age drinking.

The Community Council’s park improvement group have been driving forward changes in the park which are continuing at a pace.

Council secretary, Stevie Murray, advised: “The work on the Community garden is progressing slower than anticipated, we have been provided with expert advice on timing of planting and turfing the area.

"The new trees have now been planted and paths around the garden have been completed.  Work on the raised flower beds will progress.

"The wild flower beds have been prepared for planting and work is still scheduled to commence on the new skate park over the summer".
