ONE of the region’s most popular leisure centres is celebrating 30 years of keeping the local community active and feeling great.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, the region’s leading sports and leisure service provider, is marking 30 years since Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre opened its doors with a look back at the facility’s role in the local community.

People are being invited to join in the celebrations on Friday, June 2 at 1pm with cake and refreshments being served.

On display will be photos and information about the centre’s development since its opening in June 1987 by Provost James Johnston.

The trust currently delivers 68 classes per week, sees 200 gym visits and over 150 swim session per day, with around 470 participants enrolled in its Learn to Swim programme. And, the centre is the only facility in Scotland to offer Aquagym – unique water-based fitness equipment.

Sharon Johnstone, area leisure manager for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre is a very well used facility – it has provided a great resource for people of all ages and abilities in the local area to enjoy physical activity and get active.

“We would love people to come along to our 30th anniversary and join in the celebrations – we have also invited former staff to enjoy the day, and, duty manager Andy Wilson, who marks 30 years of employment at the centre and his birthday, will do the honour of cutting the cake.”
