"LISTENING, caring and helping anyone and everyone we meet."

That is the simple aim for The Churches in Lochgelly, Cowdenbeath and Kelty (C.L.O.C.K) Street Pastors.

A wonderful event was held on Saturday at Beath and Cowdenbeath North Church in the afternoon as four newly trained and dedicated volunteers were commissioned by Sandy Scrimgeour, the CEO of The Ascension Trust.

The church was packed with friends, family, fellow street pastors and members of the community.  Annabelle Ewing MSP was also in attendance.

The Street Pastors received prayers and words of encouragement from local minister Rev. David Redmayne; Hank John from Kelty Evangelical Church; Wilma Aitchison from C.L.O.C.K Street Pastors; and newly elected Councillor Darren Watt.

Cllr Watt said: “I was very proud to receive an invitation to this very special event.

He added: "These unsung heroes provide so much support to those most vulnerable and in need and they do this with no judgement or agenda, they simply do it because they are genuine, caring and compassionate people.

“I joined an excellent team in Cowdenbeath for a few hours in the evening and I was completely overwhelmed by their commitment and efforts. They smile to everyone that passes and stop to chat with groups of teenagers.  We even popped by the pubs, stock-cars and taxi ranks to say hello.

“It wasn’t just a case of wandering about though.  They provide a much welcome friendly face, they listen to people’s concerns and even provide minor first aid and medical assistance if need be.”

The councillor concluded: “They are also very conscious of potential injuries or incidents that could occur on our streets and removed dangers such as half bricks and bottles as well as sweeping up broken glass.

“In one night alone they prevent crime, free up our A+E, boost the local economy and keep our streets clean.  They really are our Guardian Angels of the streets.”
