ONE of Cowdenbeath's schools is celebrating its 40th birthday in 2017 and in June the pupils and staff of Foulford Primary wants anyone who has had a connection with the school to join them.

The new Foulford Primary School first opened its’ doors on October 5 1976. Today, 40 years on, some of the current school staff are former pupils of Foulford. Many of the current pupils’ parents also attended Foulford, when it first opened.

In mid June a 40th anniversary tea party is being held at the Leuchatsbeath Drive school.

This week Claire Maxwell, the current depute headteacher, recalled: "The first headteacher, was Mr. Blakeman, who was headteacher until the mid -1990s when he retired.

"The school has since has had five headteachers including Mrs Forsyth, Mrs Allan, Mrs Paterson, Mrs Mitchell and currently Mrs Clark.

"Many things have changed in education over these 40 years, however, some things undoubtedly remain the same for our school including excellent parent partnerships and strong community spirit".

The Foulford school building currently houses 359 pupils within 13 classes and 80 in the nursery with around 40 staff.

Added Claire: " Our school still prides itself on giving a warm welcome to families and visitors.

"We keep a strong connection with past pupils when they move on to High School and beyond. We are very proud of our ‘Foulford bairns’ and all of their achievements.

"If you are a former pupil or staff member or have another connection to the school we would like to invite you to join us for our 40th tea party in the school hall from 3.15pm – 4.30pm on Thursday June 15.

"Guests will have the opportunity to walk around the school, look at old photographs and have a trip down memory lane with past staff and pupils.

"If you have any old photographs or newspaper clippings you would be happy to share for the event please contact our school office".
