THE reports to Cowdenbeath Area Committee about the progress being made by pupils and staff at Beath and Lochgelly High Schools was very encouraging.

While there is always room for improvement rectors Carol Ann Penrose and Douglas Young have every right to be proud of what their two schools are achieving.

Finding positive destinations for their pupils, whether it be through work or through further education, has always been the target for Beath and LHS and it must be remembered that the Employability Initiative engineered at Lochgelly High four years ago has now been grasped nationally.

The statistics show that each year the schools have been improving the numbers of pupils finding jobs and further education futures and that is something that has to be warmly welcomed.

But having been a regular visitor to both schools it does not really surprise me for the pupils of both secondaries have shown tremendous talents in many fields and the staff of LHS and Beath are committed to helping their charges succeed.

So hopefully in the next few years the successful destinations for pupils will continue on the same trend making a real impact for local youngsters.
