A LOCHGELLY teenager who was found in possession of a knife and who caused a disturbance at the Victoria Hospital was this week sentenced to 270 days of detention.

The 17 year-old appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

He had earlier admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the Victoria Hospital on November 13 last year when he shouted, swore, uttered threats of violence and acted in an aggressive manner. He also assaulted a police officer by repeatedly spitting at him and striking him with saliva on the body.

He also, without reasonable excuse or lawful authority, had an offensive weapon – an eight inch kitchen knife – in Paul Street, Lochgelly on January 18 this year.

On February 21 this year, at Paul Street and in a police vehicle on route to Dunfermline Police Station, he also behaved in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm in that he, while in possession of a knife, shouted, swore, threatened violence to others and threatened to kill police officers.

He also failed to comply with bail conditions banning him from leaving his home between 7am and 7pm on this date and on January 28.

Solicitor, Elaine Buist said alcohol, was a big issue despite her client's young age.

"He is looking to turn things around and find a job and get his life on some sort of level footing," she added.

Sheriff Charles Macnair said two of the offences involved knives and a number involved threats of violence to others including police officers.

"For someone of your age to get involved in this level of criminality is extremely worrying," he said.

"Your inability to comply with Court orders does not fill one with hope."
