A MEMORIAL run in aid of the Captain David Seath Memorial Fund will take place in April.

Last month, the Times revealed that discussions were underway between the Seath family and Fife Council to hold the fundraiser on April 23 – the day before the first anniversary of Cowdenbeath man David's death.

The event has been confirmed to take place in Dunfermline's Pittencrieff Park after organisers of the Dunfermline Parkrun confirmed that they had been approached to ask for help in organising the 5k race.

Captain Seath passed away last year while running the London Marathon in support of Help for Heroes and organisers of the parkrun, a free 5k race against the clock that takes place every Saturday, are appealing for runners to pull their trainers on and get involved.

A spokesperson for the parkrun said: "Captain David Seath tragically died running the 2016 London Marathon in support of the charity Help for Heroes. His family, who live locally, have approached us to ask for help in organising a memorial 5k run to help raise funds for the Captain David Seath Memorial Fund.

"Dunfermline parkrun's 'core team' are happy to set up and marshal our 5k route in Pittencrieff Park on Sunday April 23 for the event, and we would like to invite people to take part."

The Memorial Fund has raised more than £250,000 and supported more than 150 wounded, injured and sick personnel and veterans so far, and David's brother Gary hopes members of the public turn out for a "very special event to commemorate David's life and help ensure his legacy continues for many years to come".

He said: "To date, over £250,000 has been generously donated in support of The Captain David Seath Memorial Fund, and we are so incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated money, organised or participated in fundraising activities across the country over the past six months.

"The ability to understand, react, and respond effectively to any given situation were integral to David's role as a Captain at 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery.

"In establishing The Captain David Seath Memorial Fund, it was very important our response embodied the aforementioned attributes. Working in partnership with Help for Heroes, the funds are used to provide financial grants to wounded, injured and sick personnel and veterans as a means to rebuild their lives following physical and emotional trauma."

A military-themed golf day at St Andrews' Fairmont course on August 31 will also take in aid of the fund, hosted by Sky Sports' David Tanner.

To participate in the memorial run, entrants are asked to pay a £5 registration fee and all money raised will go to the fund.
