A DRUGS raid on a Ballingry home ended in a violent assault on police officers with one sustaining a suspected broken rib.

Brian Richardson, 28, of Cleikimin Crescent, returned to Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing after previously admitting five charges arising from the search of his home on March 4 last year.

He admitted producing cannabis at his home and was also in possession of cocaine there.

Richardson also pleaded guilty to resisting, obstructing or hindering four police officers and struggling violently with them whereby one of the officers was injured.

He also admitted assaulting an officer, by pushing him and causing him to fall on to a bed all to his injury.

He further admitted that he assaulted another constable by repeatedly attempting to strike him.

Depute fiscal, Alex Piper, previously told the Court that police attended at the house with a search warrant at 8.40am and were allowed entry. A decision had been made not to force entry as there were children in the house.

They found Richardson in his bedroom and he told them, “Get out of my f****** house”.

He was told to get dressed but became involved in an altercation with one of the officers, swinging his arm at him and struggling violently.

Richardson and two officers then fell on to his bed which collapsed and one of the constables was trapped under the accused.

There were seven cannabis plants found in the attic and also found in the search was a quantity of cocaine with a wholesale value of around £700.

One of the officers sustained injury to his back, shoulder and hip and another suffered bruised kidneys and a suspected broken rib.

Defence solicitor, Chris Sneddon, said: “Mr Richardson accepts full responsibility and is remorseful for his actions.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry had previously warned Richardson he faced a lengthy custodial sentence but he imposed a community payback order with 300 hours of unpaid work and a six-month restriction of liberty order.

He also ordered him to pay £1000 compensation to the injured police officer.

The Sheriff warned Richardson if the order was breached, he would jail him for 30 months.
