FOR the second year the Fife Black Watch veterans held their Red Hackle Day, a tradition that was always held on January 5 every year.

This is a day when the officers and senior NCOs went around their platoon and company barracks, serving the junior NCOs and other ranks with coffee or tea with a fine measure of rum.

Cowdenbeath man, David Thomson, was very much involved and said: "This is the part called 'gunfire'.

"The next duty for the men would be breakfast, also a time when some remarks could be passed without thinking about extra duties or punishment.

"After that a day of sports where everyone took part in various activities such as tug of war, football, races etc. "Now, we as veterans, have a breakfast meeting at Rothes Halls for a meeting with old pals from years gone by.

"We the veterans thank Rob Scott for all his efforts in organising this event and we also thank the Rothes Halls cafe staff for their kindness and support of this event".
