LUMPHINNANS Primary and Community School's P1/2 pupils had a couple of special visitors.

The Owl visit was funded by the school's P1 and P2 Christmas fayre stalls.

Teacher Alice McCrae said: "We made cards and crafts in class to sell and also had games that the parents and children could take part in such as guess the bear's birthday.

"Following this at our nativity performance we raised more funds by selling programmes and photos of the children in their nativity costume.

"Our nativity was titled "Och Aye the News" and it was the traditional nativity story with a Scottish twist".

The owls Primary 1 and Primary 2 had an hour and a half session with the birds where they learned a lot about the owls, their lives and their habitats chich Alice said the youngsters had been covering in The Woodlands as their topic in term 2.

Added Alice: "All children had an opportunity to hold one of the birds and they even got the opportunity to see one of them flying when they did a 'fly over' - the children lay on the ground side by side and the owl flew above them from handler to handler".

The other classes in the school, including the nursery had a half hour 'show and tell' session where they too got to see and learn about the owls.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all including the staff.
