THE Cardenden boxing club hosted the Eastern District Schoolboy, Junior and Youth championships and provided a bonanza of boxing over two days of a most competitive line-up of bouts.

The local Cardenden club secured two titles coming from schoolboy Nathan Bell and Aiden Wilson. Nathan had to box twice to capture his title, his first bout saw him drawn against Denbeath's Logan Beadie, and the Cardenden boxer displayed too much ringcraft and kept his opponent on his back foot giving him no time to settle with the referee calling a halt to the contest at the end of the first round.

On Day 2, in the final of the 32kg category Nathan boxed the very capable Marky Alexander, from the Jonsey`s club.

Round 1 began with both boxers going for the title, the round ending with the Cardenden lad catching his opponent with a great combination of head and body shots.

Round 2 was more of the same with the Cardenden fighter finishing the round the stronger of the two boxers and in round 3 the Cardenden boxer kept up the pressure and ran out a worthy winner.

Cardenden's Aiden Wilson was in a straight final in the 48kg category against Craigmillar boxer David McEwan.

Round 1 was very tight with both boxers working hard to score points, but round 2 saw the Cardenden boxer up the pace and score with some solid shots to head and body.

In round 3, the Cardenden coaches' instructions to the local boxer was to keep his opponent under pressure which he delivered, to run out a worthy winner.

Cowdenbeath contender Bradley Innes took on Denbeath fighter Jake Adams in the Youth 2000 69kgs category. Bradley produced a superb performance to take the title.

In a final held over from the Senior finals day, Kelty's David Winiarski took on Alloa fighter Anas Nfiaou and it turned into quite a scrap.

David kept at his task but the Clacks pugilist carried the day on points.

Cardenden Boxing Club's Willie Burns was delighted to see two fighters collect titles and said: "It is always great to see this sort of event at the Bowhill Centre.

"There were some really competitive bouts and the performances from the two local lads was something to remember."
