MONDAY sees the 85th anniversary of the Bowhill Colliery Disaster.
It was on October 31 1931 that ten miners died when an explosion rocked the pit.
It has never been forgotten in the Auchterderran, Bowhill, Cardenden and Dundonald four village conurbation and on Monday children from the villages' three primary schools will take part in the service at the plaque situated in Cardenden Community Garden, in Derran Drive.
Cardenden community activist, Mary Murdoch, said: "The memorial service will be conducted by John Gilfillan, the well known local funeral director and Burns enthusiast and will start at 10.30am.
"Anyone wishing to take part in the Community Garden event is welcome to come along for a 10.30am start."
