CENTRAL Fifers are being urged to take action against nuisance calls.

Douglas Chapman, MP for Crossgates, Hill of BEath and Moss-side, says too many constituents are being bombarded with marketing phone messages.

His comments come following campaigning by fellow MP, Patricia Gibson, to clampdown on the 'harassment' the issue can cause residents.

A Bill she introduced in Parliament recently led to Ministers agreeing that company bosses will be help personally responsible and face fines of up to £500,000.

Dunfermline and West Fife MP, Mr Chapman, congratulated Ms Gibson for her campaigning and said: "We have all experienced such calls, which are a blight and can causes distress, particularly to the vulnerable and elderly.

"It's great that the UK Government will now legislate and introduce measures brought forward in Ms Gibson's bill.

"In the meantime, nuisance calls can be reported by calling the information Commissioner's Office (ICE) helpline on 0303 123 1113 or at ice.org.uk"

Patricia said: "This will be an important step in tackling nuisance calls as company directors cannot now escape the consequences of their unlawful actions and I look forward to these changes coming into force from spring 2017.”
