A VIOLENT Cowdenbeath thug who spent years beating up a succession of partners has been jailed for 18 months.

One woman after another suffered a catalogue of domestic abuse at the hands of Kevin Suttie, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard.

The 39-year-old, of High Street, Cowdenbeath, admitted that on various dates between September 8 1999 and February 28 2001 at an address in Centre Street, Kelty and elsewhere, he assaulted his then partner by throwing household objects at her, repeatedly kicking, punching and slapping her.

Suttie disconnected a phone preventing her from calling for help, repeatedly pushed her on the body and pinned her against walls, sat on top of her whilst she was lying on a bed and pinned her down, all to her injury.

He also admitted that on various occasions between August 1 2006 and February 19 2010 at Rae Street and Blamey Street, Cowdenbeath, he assaulted another woman, his then partner, by slapping her on the face, grabbing her and throwing her to the floor, repeatedly punching her, pinning her down and throwing household items at her, all to her injury.

Suttie further pleaded guilty to, on an occasion between January 1 and May 1 2013 at a house in Rae Street, Cowdenbeath, he assaulted a third woman, his then partner, by repeatedly punching her, pushing her and pulling her hair, all to her injury.

He also admitted that on July 1 this year, at Swintons Place, Hill of Beath, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly shouting and swearing.

Depute fiscal Ron Hay said in the relationship with the first woman, “physical violence became regular”.

She recalled on an occasion early in 2000 when he “punched her, apologised, kissed her and he said it wouldn’t happen again”.

However, it became a regular occurrence for Suttie to punch her on the lower back and thighs.

On another occasion when she had her hair done ahead of a wedding, Suttie confronted her, grabbed her, then punched and kicked her.

The victim barricaded herself in her bedroom and shouted for help.

The pattern of threats and violence continued in later relationships with other women.

As well as the incidents Suttie was sentenced for, the court heard he also had convictions for domestic abuse against another complainer in 2010 and 2011.

Sheriff Charles Macnair said, “You’ve been abusive to a series of partners over many years. It is the pattern of violence and controlling behaviour which is important.”

He jailed Suttie for a total of 540 days.
