WHEN Cowdenbeath lost Daniel Turner whose young life was cut short by a senseless murder his many friends decided to play a charity football each year to remember him.

His friend, Joe Schiavone, family and several colleagues have organised the game over the past three years and on Saturday they played for the Paula O'Brien Foundation, which helps disadvantaged people in Fife at Beath High School.

Said Joe: "We raised £500 for Paula O'Brien Foundation, with each player donating £10 and staging a big raffle with prizes donated from local businesses.

"Each year the support from the community with giving donations to our raffle and with Beath High School proving their astro turf for free each year has been amazing.

"We're really chuffed with our effort each year, raising money for charities in honour of a great friend and family member Daniel. We have even got our next game booked in for August 19 2017 with an 11am kick off."

Added Joe: "We've yet to decide on which charity to raise the donations for, each year we pick different charity to donate our money to.

"We would like to thank everyone who took part in the football match and a massive thank-you to everyone who donated and a special thank you to Beath High and local businesses for their continued support."
