COWDENBEATH Horticultural Society chairman Colin Bird said this week that preparations are going well for this year’s show on September 10 and 11 in the Trinity Church.

This year’s motto is a “Green Theme” as the Society is promoting Recycling and Renewable Energy.

He explained that the popular centre piece will be decorated as usual, though this year the floral displays will be in various recycled containers, including a chimney pot, a tyre, guttering and lots more, there will also be an old traditional windmill and a modern windmill!

Said Colin: "We have also included recycling into many of the sections throughout the show.

"Due to the poor spring and summer this year we are unsure how this will impact of the flower sections so the committee is hoping that the craft, produce, floral decoration, pot plants and photography sections will be as strong as previous years if not better.

"Over the last few weeks and continuing throughout August the society is holding floral decoration classes in the Trinity Church.

"These classes are well attended and those attending are learning the art of floral decoration from Chelsea Gold winning floral artist Linda Soutar.

"The hope is all attending will enter the confined class for floral decoration and also enter some of the other classes available".

He added: "Also in the show will be the ever popular charity knit.

"This year we are supporting two charities. Children in poverty will see a small knitted toy max size 18” to give to children at Christmas, the second charity is Knitting for Peace, this could be any garment from baby age to older children, and it is hoped we can beat last year's total of over 500 items."

Colin added if people have anything you could enter simply take it along. If you would like a show schedule or more details contact Colin on 07763404234.
