JUST over a week after he had learned he was selected for the Great Britain team for the Paralympic Games in Rio next month, Kieran Steer from Crossgates has won a silver medal at the GB Boccia Championships at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

Kieran was one of nine players selected by Scottish Disability Sport to compete in the Championships. The event provided an opportunity for the GB selected players to demonstrate they are the players in form before the team heads to Rio. The Scots won four medals in the BC3 and BC4 classification groups.

The BC4 final was an all Scottish affair involving the two who will represent GB in Rio. World Champion Stephen McGuire was the form player yet again defeating Kieran to win yet another British title.

But Kieran reached the final by defeating his GB team mate, Evie Edwards from England who went on to win bronze. The top three places in the BC4 class were filled by the three selected GB players.

Kieran is coached by Claire Morrison from Dalgety Bay, who is also the Head coach for GB Boccia. She said: "Kieran is playing the best boccia of his career and this result could not come at a better time in the run up to the 2016 Paralympic Games".
