LEGENDS Day 3 will soon be upon stock car fans at the Cowdenbeath Racewall over the weekend 13/14 August, and already there has been a great response from drivers from way back with over 100 stating that they are heading to the Racewall for the occasion, writes Jim Turner.

It is 40 years to the weekend that Gordon McDougall became the first Scotsman to win a stock car World Final when he did so at Cowdenbeath.

McDougall lost his title the following year but regained his title at Kaldenkirchen in 1978.

The replica superstox that he used to win the title will be at the Racewall and it is hoped that he will get behind the wheel and drive it around the track for a few laps accompanied by the Howard Cole replica car.

The response to legends day 3 has been overwhelming with numerous drivers heading up from England with Conrad Self, Stu Blyth, Steve Monk and Danny Semaru coming up to race in the speedway events planned to take place on Saturday night but mainly on the Sunday afternoon.

Over both days it is planned for team races between the Scottish and English saloon drivers, open wheeled drivers and non contact drivers to take place.

Keith Jarman, Hamish Buchanan, Gordon Brown, Ernie Burgoyne, Kenny Ireland, Bill Auld and Gillian Philp are part of the Scottish team and they are going to have their hands full if they want to come out on top

Dick Gladden is bringing up his heritage formula I whilst there are three classic saloons heading north, one in the colours of Wally Hall, who many will remember as a torment to the Scottish drivers during the early 80s.
