THERE are "really exciting" plans to spend cash on transforming a sheltered housing complex in Cardenden.

Fife Council have submitted plans to demolish part of the building at Den Court, Station Road, and provide new and better homes for the elderly.

The work will include new roofs, windows and doors, as well as landscaping and spaces for parking.

If the application is approved, the alterations should be complete in early 2018.

The council's Louise Sutherland, service manager for housing operations, said: "This is a really exciting project that will provide long-term, sustainable one and two bedroom homes for older tenants, including two suitable for anyone with a disability.

"The project is being funded from our housing revenue budget and will bring the property up to modern living standards, similar to the work we carried out at Byron Court in Methil, which is proving very popular.

"We're carrying out this work as we had a high number of vacancies at Den Court. The properties were bedsit sized and didn't meet the needs of our customers. It also meant there wasn't a vibrant atmosphere for those living there."

She continued: "We anticipate that we'll hear whether the application has been approved by the start of September. We're hoping it will take us around 18 months to complete, weather permitting.

"To allow us to refurbish the property we're making individual arrangements with each tenant, taking their needs into consideration.

"Tenants have been re-located either into new homes or decanted to alternative temporary lets."
