A COWDENBEATH man on a deferred sentence to be of good behaviour was instead caught stealing three times from Co-op stores in Central Fife.

Kenneth McKean, 40, shoplifted various items totalling more than £200, including 10 tins of deodorant and two roast chickens.

McKean, of 42 Dalbeath Crescent, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing last Wednesday.

He admitted stealing a quantity of deodorant and shampoo from the Co-op in Lochleven Terrace, Lochore, on October 8 and 12 last year; and stealing a a quantity of cheese, a quantity of ham and two roast chickens from the Co-op in Lumphinnans Road, Lochgelly, on February 22 this year.

Fiscal depute Louise Graham told the court that McKean was detected on CCTV for all three offences.

The value of the goods in each theft were £125.71, £27.22 and £56.98 respectively. There was no recovery.

Solicitor Gordon Martin said McKean had “difficulties and problems”, and that the social work report outlined “how they might be best addressed”.

Sheriff Charles Macnair imposed a community payback order with supervision of 12 months, and an 80-day restriction of liberty order.

He blasted McKean: “I take account of the fact that you were on deferred sentence from the Justice of the Peace court from September 11 last year, and that was for you to be of good behaviour. You were not.”
