WORK on Kelty’s new skate park is complete and the facility is ready to welcome skaters for its first summer.

The new skate park, which is part of a wider programme of new or upgraded skate park facilities in the Cowdenbeath area, is at the playpark in Keltyhill Avenue.

It’s a much needed replacement for the former skatepark at Blairadam Park and has been funded by the Council’s Cowdenbeath Area Committee, local community planning budget and the Fairer Scotland Fund.

Councillor Mark Hood, chair of Fife Sports Partnership and Executive Committee member, visited the new facility recently with pupils from St Joseph's and Kelty primary schools.

He said: “This is a fantastic new facility for Kelty’s skaters who were very much involved in developing the plans.

"Improving the skate park provision in the Cowdenbeath area has been a local priority in response to the Council’s wider commitment to improve sport and physical activity opportunities.

"It’s great to see the progress of this programme, particularly when it’s resulting in top quality parks such as this one.”

Across the wider area, the new skate park at Wallsgreen Park in Cardenden was completed last year and Kelty’s skate park is the second in the programme to be completed.

Work on the new Multi Use Games Area for Benarty is almost finished and construction of the skate park is well underway too – they’re expected to be completed by the end of summer. 3D images are currently being prepared for Cowdenbeath’s new skate park and the planning application for it will be submitted soon.

There are also plans to engage the young people of Lochgelly in designing a skatepark facility for the town using the same formula that has worked so well in Benarty, Kelty and Cardenden.
