GLENROTHES and Central Fife MP Peter Grant has been appointed treasurer of the SNP Westminster Group at the group’s AGM.

As a qualified accountant with a background in public sector finance Peter is well placed to take on the role.

Speaking about his new responsibilities within the group, Cardenden and Kinglassie MP Peter said: "I was surprised but honoured to be asked by SNP Group Leader Angus Robertson to take on this role.

"As the third biggest party in the House of Commons the SNP group receives funds to pay for researchers and for other permitted functions. We are committed to ensuring that these funds are properly used and accounted for, and I look forward to assisting with this task".

SNP Westminster Leader Angus Robertson MP said: "I am delighted Peter was elected Treasurer for the SNP Group at Westminster at our recent Annual General Meeting.

"He brings with him a wealth of experience to the group's leadership and I can't think of a better person to take on the role. I look forward to working with Peter, along with my fellow SNP MPs, in the months to come as we continue to be a strong, effective and united opposition in Westminster."
