TRAFFIC in Dunfermline was brought to to a standstill this lunchtime (Thursday) as hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of Captain David Seath.

The tragic Army captain collapsed and died while raising money for the Help for Heroes charity at the London Marathon on April 24.

His justgiving page has now raised more than £77,000 while a second fundraising venture, started by a friend, has topped £100,000.

Central Dunfermline roads were closed for an hour as a lone piper guided his hearse and mourners to Dunfermline Cemetery after an emotional service at St Margaret's RC Church in East Port.

He was laid to rest with full military honours and a salute fired at his grave, while members of his regiment, the 7 (Sphinx) Battery, 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, bore his coffin.

Captain Seath was originally from Cowdenbeath and his mum, Libby, headteacher at Park Road Primary School in Rosyth, paid tribute to her son last week, saying: "David has achieved more in 31 years than most people do in 70, He lived his life on the edge and to the full."
