SAYS Conservative Candidate for the Cowdenbeath Constituency: "As we reach polling day, it’s interesting to reflect on what drives the decisions of individual voters. For many, this election is a re-run of the 2014 Referendum. Their chief concern is still whether we should or shouldn’t do it all again.

"If you’re still for separation, the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party isn’t for you. The clue’s in the name. But if you want Scotland to stay in the UK – and you were the majority 18 months ago – then voting Dempsey/Davidson on Thursday sends the strongest possible message. Cast both your votes for the Scottish Conservatives and be sure that we won’t waver.
"For many others, it’s tax and here you have the choice between a Scotland with taxes higher than next door and one where we attract and keep talent and grow our economy. The idea that increasing taxes makes everything better is seductive but it ain’t necessarily so. All the main parties in this election share the main visions – health, education and much else, all free at the point of use. But free at the point of use isn’t the same as coming at no cost and a lot of the last government’s freebies have come at considerable cost. For example, free university tuition has cost more than 150,000 college places, with more losses in Rosyth announced last week. If the solution was as simple as spending even more of the public’s money, we’d have solved it all by now.
"So, on Thursday, ask yourself whether you want another five years of opposition-free Holyrood. Ask yourself whether you want another independence referendum. Ask yourself whether you want to pay more tax than folk in Berwick and Carlisle. Because “No” to each of those says you’re with the Scottish Conservatives and on Thursday you can vote to prove it".
