A SOUTH Glencraig resident is concerned that despite a speed reduction planned for his village a fatal accident is not far away.

Philip McKeown was speaking after yet another car landed in his garden.

After a strong campaign by the villagers Cowdenbeath Area Committee took the decision to reduce the speed limit through the village from 40mph to 30.

And indeed, they have taken things a step further by keeping the 30 limit through to Crosshill and into Benarty.

But Philip is worried that some people are simply do not take any heed of speed limits and these are the sort who could cause a fatal accident.

Philip told the Times: "It has now been confirmed that the 30mph limit is to be extended northward beyond Lochgelly High School, not just to encompass South Glencraig, but along the entire stretch into Glencraig itself.

"Without the invaluable assistance from Councillor Alex Campbell throughout, this would not have come to fruition.

"However, it seems much more may need to be implemented, since I am now in the unenviable situation of having sustained serious damage to my own property, from the latest out of control vehicle."

He is really worried that after the latest incident a very serious accident could occur in South Glencraig or nearby by people speeding along the B920.

He added: "The clock is ticking down, and unless a major campaign is waged on the lack of driving standards in our community, the next fatality is surely not too distant".

Councillor Campbell is very concerned by what has been happening on this stretch of road: "This is clearly something we will have to keep our eye on.

"The residents of the village have been concerned for a long time about speeding vehicles and this latest accident shows that the problems are still there."

Yours faithfully,

PHILIP MCKEOWN
