COWDENBEATH FC can confirm that following discussions with club captain John Armstrong it has now been mutually agreed to release him from his contract in order that he might pursue some alternative career opportunities. John leaves with the very best wishes of all at Central Park and club director David Allan today paid grateful thanks for the leading role he played in all the successes of recent years – including 2 promotions, some wonderful play-off occasions, a League title and four second tier seasons during one of the club’s finest eras.
Said David: "Only five men in the history of our club have played in more league matches for Cowdenbeath than John who has made 238 such appearances for us. "He was our Player of the Year in 2014 and was also our Players’ Player of the Year on more than one occasion". He added: "John originally came on loan to us from Hearts in 2007 and ended up spending almost 2 seasons with Cowdenbeath as a loanee before signing on a permanent basis in 2009. "His centre back partnerships with Darren McGregor and Joe Mbu in particular were the bedrock of several of our successes. "We are sure that all Cowdenbeath fans will join in adding their own heartfelt thanks to John for his service and commitment to the club plus their own good wishes for the future".
