DRIVERS who park their cars on the pavements of Cowdenbeath High Street came under fire this week.

The town's Environment Group is very unhappy at the results of a survey they carried out of the paving slabs on the town's main thoroughfare.

They found upwards of 300 slabs damaged, some very severely, and as was pointed out, at a time when there were plans to change the image of High Street.

Said one member of the Enviro group: "Its absolutely disgraceful to see the amount of cars vans and even lorries parking on our pavements.

"I really thought that pavements were for pedestrians? This situation must be extremely annoying, especially for parents with kids in buggies, older people and even more so, the disabled in therir buggies.

"Do drivers have no consideration for these people other than to park where they want, when they want.

"Unfortunately we rarely see traffic wardens or police officers on the beat these days.

"It has now become a free for all and give no consideration to pedestrians."

The enthusiast added: "In Cowdenbeath there are 6 car parks and give or take the smaller ones the large car parks are very rarely filled, which poses the question what ever happened to good old fashioned park the car in the car park and just a have a wee walk to the shops. Not too difficult I would have thought but no just check out High Street, Broad Street and the surrounding areas.

"Taking all of this into account what we now also have are paths and pavements which are severely damaged because of all the traffic parking on them.

"What chance do we now have repairing damaged and dangerous pavements if this activity continues.

"Hundreds of thousands of pounds were spent resurfacing the High Street but take a walk and view the pavements". Bring back traffic wardens and lets get it sorted."
