THE Cowdenbeath 46th Scout Group has invited all parents to join their children to see what they have been doing throughout the year.

The 46th team also used the opportunity to present badges to the cooking and survival etc.

All parents and their families and any ex members of the 46th or 28th Fife Scout Groups will be made most welcome.

Said Group Scout Leader Graham Gilbert: "This year Cowdenbeath MSP Alex Rowley will be joining us as will the President of Rosyth District Graham Bennet and our newly appointed District Commission Terry O’Neil. Our guest speaker in Mr Bob Broderick warden of Fordell Firs Scout Centre".

Graham explained that it has been a big year. The Beavers –lLed by Fiona Ritchie and Rob Watt, the colony has grown in size over the year.

They have been very busy with visits to Dobbie’s, Tesco’s, and Pets are Us. Aided by visits from the fire service, community police and the Mac mobile museum bus. Trips out to the Aviation Museum at East Fortune as well a visit to Cluny Clays. They also established firm links with a Canadian Beaver Colony in Kitchener, Ontario, in Canada. led by Barrie Wilson and Jim Miller, the pack have this year had a fantastic range of camps and activities and they have gained a most impressive 112 proficiency badges throughout the year. The pack has doubled in size during the year. Activities ranged from a climbing wall to cooking with several overnight camps and a dazzling array of activities and badges.

The Scouts are led by Bod McLean and have been camping, learned about many topics from cooking to piston engines, and have undertaken karting, 10 pin bowling, first aid, canoeing, sailing, archery, crate climbing, backwoods cooking, pioneering, and the giant swing, etc.

They also took part in “jamboree on the internet” with a US Scout Troop in Hopewell Junction, New York State.

Added Graham: "It has been a good year for the 46th. The leaders have done a fantastic job throughout the year supporting the children and each other and we thank them all their work is deeply appreciated

The Parents Executive has also been a big influence. We owe a huge thank-you to all our hard working committee lead by our chairman Mark Wells who give so selflessly of their time to support the group, be that flipping burgers or raising funds.
