FORTY two senior pupils from Beath High School visited the Higher Education Convention at The Rothes Halls, Glenrothes, and every one gained key information looking ahead.

This is the largest group of pupils so far from Beath who have taken time out of their studies to visit the Convention.

The new electronic ticketing system made entry very easy and the information on offer to the pupils was extremely valuable.

The majority of Scottish Universities and colleges were represented and Admissions and Academic Staff were on hand to answer questions about courses, entry requirements, funding and student life. Many pupils left the Convention with boxes full of university prospectuses and raised aspirations.

Indeed, this year sees Beath with the highest number ever of senior pupils applying to university and those pupils began their university applications on the 8th September.

Mrs Pilmer, Principal Teacher, writes, "Over fifty pupils this year intend to apply to a range of universities and also to the Scottish Conservatoire.

"Also, following in the footsteps of Chantelle Lesswell, two pupils have already visited Yale University in August of this year and, through the help of The Sutton Trust, they are now applying to American Universities with the intention of studying there next year".

The morning began with Charlotte Binstead, from Napier University, giving the pupils invaluable advice on personal statements.

"This was followed by a step by step guide through the application process, delivered by Lynne King from Skills Development Scotland. Later in the morning, pupils registered with UCAS and began their individual applications", she added.

"It is a measure of the school's successful Widening Access Programme and its Raising Attainment agenda that such a significant number of pupils intend to continue their education at university."

The UCAS application process is now fully underway in Beath and will be completed by the end of December 2015.
