DON'T miss the European debut of America’s premier Latino dance company Ballet Hispánico performing CARMEN.maquia, a Picasso-inspired, contemporary take on Bizet’s beloved classic.

The dance company are at Edinburgh's Festival Theatre for a week long run, March 6 to 10 and we have a pair of tickets up for grabs for the performance for Tuesday March 6.

The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on a novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée. The opera was first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 3 March 1875, where its breaking of conventions shocked and scandalized its first audiences.

The physically charged and sensual choreography fuses contemporary dance with nods to the Spanish paso doble and flamenco. A stunning set design by Luis Crespo and minimalist black-and-white costumes by fashion designer David Delfin evoke the paintings of Pablo Picasso. Highly original and full of elaborate partnering, Gustavo Ramírez Sansano’s CARMEN.maquia is a bold and electrifying reimagining of this tragic tale.

The evening begins with Linea Recta, in which Annabelle Lopez Ochoa imagines an original and explosive movement language premised upon the theme of partnership and performed to flamenco guitar by Eric Vaarzon Morel.

To win the pair of tickets for March 6 tell us when Carmen was first performed and send your entry to the Times Office, 17 Bank Street, Lochgelly, by Wednesday February 28.
