IF you were going for a girls' night oot with your pals, especially a hen night, what would you be looking for?

A good laugh, a wee drinkie, plenty dancing, maybe a wee song and a night filled with great nostalgia......, writes our theatre critic Kerry Black.

Well this is exactly what “Girls' Night Oot!” offered at the Edinburgh Playhouse in front of thousands of women!

“Girls' Night Oot!” is written and directed by Paul Harper-Swan and follows the time honoured formula of four lassies on a hen night and the high jinks which ensue!

With musical direction by Alison Rona Cleland, who also plays one of the principal roles, this hilarious show had the whole audience on their feet dancing and singing along. Even better the show is totally Scottish, with accents and humour as broad as the Buckie they swill doon!

Starring Lochgelly born Donna Hazelton, Natalie Tulloch, Lauren Ellis- Steele and Alison Rona Clelland, the show opened with a backdrop of giant light up letters spelling oot Girls Night Oot and tables and chairs as the girls pranced on stage carrying bottles, glasses and a few questionable large inflatable props, belting out “I'm Every Woman”.

Realising that they had forgotten to hire a stripper, they asked a random man from the audience to join them on stage as they cavorted about to “Do You Think I'm Sexy?”

With a non stop soundtrack of well known floor fillers covering everything from “I Kissed A Girl”, “All About The bass “ and even “Hey Big Spender”, led by Donna as a Not-So-Sweet Charity, the audience roared and laughed all night!

As Lauren in her daft wee hen-night veil prepares for her big day, her pal Kelly Marie (Natalie) stuns her pals with her dreams of a Britney themed wedding as she struts her stuff in her thigh high boots, belting out “Hit Me Baby One More Time” and “Toxic”.

The Playhouse is the biggest stage in Scotland and it was incredible to see so many women of all ages from 18 too 88, belting out “ Girls Just Wanna Fun” and dancing along to “Proud Mary” in a storming finale number!
