POLICE Scotland Fife Pipe Band would like to announce that Douglas Murray has taken over as Pipe Major of the band with immediate effect.

Pipe Major Andrew (Drew) Mathieson has stepped down from the position due to time constraints as a result of increasing family commitments and his work with the junior band.

He will, however, remain within the ranks of the band and will continue to play a vital role within the Pipe Corp and support the new Pipe Major.

Drew said, "I would like to thank all of the players in the band who, over the last two seasons, have given me nothing less than 100% effort.

"It has been an honour to be given the opportunity to be Pipe Major of the band, however, I feel that I am unable to give the time required to carry out the job to the best of my ability due to increasing family commitments with my two sons now involved in motor racing and my continued commitment to Kirkcaldy High School Pipe Band.

"I would also like to thank Ken Chatham (community Inspector in Cowdenbeath), the band manager and the committee members, who ensure that the band runs smoothly. They have been a great help to me.

"This change was going to be made at the end of the season but we have decided to bring this forward to help the band to progress.

"I am sure Douglas will make a great Pipe Major and I am looking forward to playing under his leadership".

The incoming Pipe Major, Douglas Murray, has been a member of Police Scotland Fife Pipe Band since its inception and brings a wealth of experience, having played with a number of Grade 1 bands, including many as Pipe Sergeant. He is a world renowned piper with an array of solo titles under his belt and is greatly respected within piping circles.

Douglas brings with him to the role a fresh injection of enthusiasm and will be fully supported by Pipe Sergeant Blair Porter, Leading Drummer Mick O'Neill, and all of the band members.

Douglas, on accepting the position said, "I am very excited and confident about taking the band forward as Pipe Major of Police Scotland Fife Pipe Band. "I have played with the band since its formation in 2007 and am looking forward to working with Leading Drummer Mick O'Niell and Pipe Sergeant Blair Porter, who have both worked very hard for the band over the past few years. We have a bright future ahead.

"I would also like to thank all members for their help and support and look forward to the rest of the season and beyond."
