Kelty survive this Tayport raid.

SATURDAY’S Junior returns saw opening day league wins for Kelty Hearts, Lochore Welfare, and Ballingry Rovers.

On the receiving end were Lochgelly Albert, Dundonald Bluebell, Crossgates Primrose and Hill of Beath Hawthorn.

Hearts 3, Tayport 0.

THIS was an excellent opening to the East Super League for Kelty Hearts who were far superior to the much fancied Tayside team.

The first period saw Hearts put in plenty of effort and they created several decent chances but at the break there were no goals.

However, on the hour Kelty got the breakthrough when Tom McGeorge got on the end of a cross and his header was a winner all the way.

Five minutes later Craig Morrison chased a long ball and fired in number two.

Hearts were in charge and Tayport seldom threatened and the third came with 20 minutes left when Morrison again streaked away from the Tayport defence to make it 3-0.

Lochee 2, Haws 1.

HILL of Beath Hawthorn came within seconds of earning an East Super League point against Lochee United in Dundee.

Hill of Beath made a good start to the game and had a chance from the penalty spot in 15 minutes but Fraser Beveridge’s penalty hit the bar and stayed out and then Stephen Bathgate forced a good save from the Lochee ‘keeper.

There were no goals at the interval but Lochee grabbed the lead soon after the re-start and things got worse for Haws when Beveridge was sent off for dissent.

However, the villagers kept battling and Calum Bissett headed them level in the closing stages.

The game went into injury time when Lochee grabbed what proved to be the winner.

Bluebell 0, Rovers 1.

THIS was Ballingry Rovers first East Premier League game and they responded by picking up all three points.

The game was tight at the start but Ballingry gradually started to take control and Dundonald ‘keeper Jamie Connelly made several fine saves to ensure that at the break the teams turned around level.

In the second period Ballingry continued to carry the better goal threat but Dundonald defended bravely until the 75th minute.

A Barry Smith throw caught out the Bluebell cover and James Adam shot home what proved to be the winner.

Wayne Wright came closest for Dundonald with a shot which hit the post in the closing minutes.

Welfare 3, Albert 1.

THIS Central League game saw Lochgelly Albert start as favourites but in fairness to Lochore they looked the better side for much of the match.

The first period saw both teams attack at will and Stevie Brown and Andy Harrow both went close for Lochgelly and John Ferguson was a danger for Lochore.

At the break there were no goals but the breakthrough came in 55 minutes when Ferguson put Welfare ahead with a diving header.

Nicky Mitchell’s penalty soon after levelled things up but shortly after Ferguson’s spectacular overhead kick restored the Welfare lead.

Albert kind of lost their way after this and Kevin Goodwin’s third late on ensured a home win.

Jeanfield 3, Primrose 2.

A SECOND-HALF burst of goals ended up in favour of home side Jeanfield Swifts.

There was no lack of endeavour in the first period but neither side really threatened the nets.

However, Swifts took the lead in 65 minutes and added a second three minutes later before Mark Pagliarulo was hauled down in the box and convdrted the penalty himself.

A third Jeanfield goal was too much for Crossgates to overcome although they hit back and again it was a Pagliarulo strike from the spot after he had been fouled.

SATURDAY’S fixtures, East Super League, Hill of Beath Hawthorn v Kelty Hearts (2.30). East Premier League, Dundee North End v Dundonald Bluebell, Ballingry Rovers v Newtongrange Star (2.30).

Central League, Lochgelly Albert v Luncarty, Crossgates Primrose v Newburgh, Kirkcaldy YM v Lochore Welfare (2.30).
