Cowden's tough assignment at Ochilview
By Jim Stark
COWDENBEATH travel to Stenhousemuir on Saturday for a game which will have a big effect on the top of the division.
With the Fifers leading the table and Stenny close behind it is all to play for at Ochilview.
Manager Danny Lennon was delighted with Saturday’s win at Elgin especially with the defensive work.
He said, “As we thought Elgin worked very hard to deny us space and defended well and in the opening phase put us under a bit of pressure.
“But the dismissal of their player helped the cause and once we got the first goal we started to play some really good football and made good use of the extra space.
“We defended especially well in the opening part of the match but overall the team worked well as a unit defensively.”
And he added, “If our defending has been a bit iffy in recent home games we have defended well in all three away games and Saturday was no different. The boys covered excellently and kept their openings to a minimum”.
The manager is looking forward to the match with the Warriors and knows that it will be a hard game on an artificial pitch.
He went on, “Stenhousemuir have made a good start to the season and we are delighted to go there as league leaders.
“It will be a hard game but I am sure we can adapt to the artificial surface and come away with a result. We will be going there with a very positive approach and will look to attack when have the ball”.
There were no real knocks from the Elgin match although Joe Mbu suffered a slight dead leg and Mark Baxter came through his return on Saturday well and John Dempster got pitch time with no reaction.
Jay Shields, who missed the Elgin game, will be back in contention for a place this week.
