Good start could open promotion door
By Jim Stark
A good opening to the new season would help Cowdenbeath forget the traumas of relegation in May.
To do that the Blue Brazil will have to overcome the new club being chosen shortly to replace out of business Gretna in the Scottish Football League.
That decision will be made next week and the new club will start life in the SFL at Central Park on 2nd August.
After that game Cowden have to travel to Forfar wo will be under Lochgelly man Dick Campbell and then entertain Albion Rovers before trips to Elgin and Stenhousemuir beckon.
With no Raith Rovers or East Fife in the division this season there will be no New Year derby but Cowden will be just as keen to beat Berwick Rangers at Central Park on 3rd January as anyone else.
Dumbarton too could be one of the clubs Cowden is battling it out for the top four spots and they travel to Sons in mid-September and they visit Central on the first week in December.
Meanwhile manager Danny Lennon has been strengthening the staff looking after the club's successful youth section.
He has appointed former Gretna coach Bob Paterson as head of youth development, a full-time position.
The manager said, "This shows the club's continuing commitment to youth football and Bob will bring great experience to the role".
