Bonnyrigg hold the aces against Hearts

Another dangerous Haws attack
Rose 3, Hearts 0.
BONNYRIGG Rose proved to be too good for Kelty Hearts in Saturday’s East of Scotland Cup semi-final.
The Lothians side have had a decent season and this win emphasised their ability at this level.
Yet the first period of this tie saw both teams have spells in charge. Kelty put together several good raids in the opening phase but they just could not find the net.
Shortly before the interval they had another good chance but Bonnyrigg too had openings and it was surprising that when the interval came there were no goals.
But Rose started the second period with real purpose and took the lead in 47 minutes with a well worked goal although there were suggestions that in the build-up a Hearts player might have been pulled back.
Bonnyrigg took great heart from this opening and on the hour stretched their lead.
Kelty tried hard to fight-back but could not really put any real pressure on the Rose ’keeper and a third goal two minutes from time sealed a home win.
Kelty have one game left, the Maloco Associates Cup final on Friday night at Hill of Beath.
Manager Stevie Leighton was philosophical about Saturday’s result, “We played well enough in the first-half but just could not get a goal.
“After the break they took over and thoroughly deserved their win but it has been a decent season for us.
“We were the top Fife team in the East Super League and we have Friday’s final to look forward to plus last week’s memorable win over the Scottish Junior Cup holders.”
FRIDAY night’s fixture, Maloco Associates Cup final at Keir’s Park, Kelty Hearts v Thornton Hibs (7pm).
Haws 2, Bathgate 0.
SCOTTISH Junior Cup holders Bathgate Thistle were given a second going over by another of the area's big two sides.
Kelty Hearts thumped Thistle 4-0 last Tuesday and on Thursday it was Hill of Beath Hawthorn's turn to take on the holders in the semi-final of the Fife and Lothians Cup.
The Keir's Parkers were short of several regulars for this tie but the home fans saw their side produce a good performance.
The homer team made a good start to the match and took the lead in ten minutes when Gavin Gray fired home from just inside the box.
This settled Haws and they started to play some really good football.
They created some good chances but missed them and had to wait until Stephen Bathgate's 25 yard shot to tie things up.
Bathgate tried hard to get back into the picture but some excellent defending by the hosts ensured that it was another bleak evening in Fife for Thistle.
SATURDAY'S Fixture, Fife and Lothians Cup final, Camelon v Hill of Beath Hawthorn 2.30pm at Linlithgow.
