Benarty Community Centre’s outdoor sports area has been given a £10,000 facelift.

The management committee has invested in new astroturf covering for both the football pitches and tennis court.

Centre manager, Karen Hunter explained: “The astro courts have been in place for around ten years and received a short-term upgrading a few years ago, however, in order to maximise the potential of the sporting area, the committee decided to invest in this worthwhile and much-needed facility.

Chairman of the management committee, Councillor Willie Clarke, said: “It’s a good day for the area. The people that use this facility deserve the best possible playing surface. I hope the new surface will just as well used as the previous surface.”

Councillor Alex Rowley added: “I would like to congratulate the management committee for all the hard work they do throughout the year. This is a great example of how they spend money to benefit the community. Every time I come to this community I see that the park is well used. It’s a great asset.”

The Benarty Centre offers various discount schemes and incentives for football teams and organisations who take out block booking of the astro court. There are also membership incentives.
