Jordan and Renny

Two brothers from Lochgelly have been selected for Scotland’s ice hockey team.

Jordan Marr (16) will be joined by his 10-year-old brother Renny for a trip to the Hull Arena, where they’ll take on four top English teams.

Beath High pupil, Jordan, who is a netminder with the Fife Flyers, will defend the Under 17’s goal.

His brother, a pupil at St Patrick’s Primary, has followed in his footsteps and guards the net for the Kirkcaldy Redskins. He will take to the ice for the Scotland’s under 11s side.

Jordan said, “It’s a great honour. The fans go crazy. There’s hundreds of quiet English fans and a wee group of Scottish fans making all the noise. It makes me very proud.”

Renny added, “It feels really good. I’ve only played for Scotland once before and I want to do it more often. I also want to play for the Pittsburgh Penguins one day.”

Mum, Tracy, said the family is very proud. “It’s really great to see them doing so well. It’s what they want to do professionally so we’ll give them all the backing we can,” she added.

This season Jordan has helped the Flyers win league and play-off titles while Renny was involved in steering the Redskins to a respectable second place finish in their league. His side also missed out on the Scottish Cup by just one point.

Playing at this level requires hard work and commitment.

Jordan explained, “I train three times a week until midnight. Renny starts training at 6.30 on Saturday mornings.

“But we don’t mind. We love playing ice hockey. And if it gives us a chance to play for Scotland, that’s a bonus.”

Jordan’s season ends after his trip to Hull but, having been offered a place at the prestigious Ontario Hockey Academy, he has a lot of work ahead.

He’s organised a sportsman’s lunch and a golf outing to help pay the £9000 it will cost for the chance of a lifetime. He’s also taken on a part-time job at KFC.
