Champs await Cowden
By Jim Stark
Cowdenbeath travel to Dingwall on Saturday to take on Barrs Irn Bru Second Division champions Ross County.
Cowden missed out on a game last Saturday when Airdrie United’s ground New Broomfield failed an inspection after Friday night’s heavy rain.
The pitch was waterlogged as was Berwick Rangers’ Shielfield Park so relegation play-off rivals Queen’s Park were also out of action.
So the Fifers travel north to take on the champs who got a game on Saturday on the astroturf at Alloa.
But they lost 2-0 to two goals in the closing four minutes so County will be hoping to put a further spoke in the Cowden hopes of finishing the season with a bit of style.
Manager Brian Welsh is by no means going north without some hope of getting a result.
He said, “It was very disappointing to not have a game on Saturday but we seem to have had more problems than most sides at getting away games played.
“Now we visit County who will be determined to do well in front of their own fans but we will go there looking to add to the point we have taken off them this season.
“It will be very difficult but a result up there would be a good boost to our confidence for the remainder of the season.”
Cowden’s injury problems remain but there are hopes that John and David Armstrong will be able to play in the closing fixtures while skipper Mark Baxter is also desperate to make the play-off games at least.
