Blue Brazil must be ready for play-offs
By Jim Stark
If Cowdenbeath are destined for the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division relegation play-offs then manager Brian Welsh wants his team to be fully prepared for the possible matches against Third Division opponents.
Last Saturday’s 0-2 home defeat by Brechin City and Queen’s Park’s win over Raith Rovers at Kirkcaldy moved the Blue Brazil to within touching distance of the play-offs.
But the manager felt his side had nothing to be ashamed of in their performance against City.
He said, “It is hard to believe that we lost that match for we had so much of the play and created some really good chances.
“Indeed, we hit the underside of the bar and missed a really good chance around the 75th minute and five minutes later Brechin go up the park and grab the lead.
“The second goal just summed up our luck at the moment, we are just not getting the rub of the green”.
Mr Welsh added, “If we are to be part of the play-off set-up we must ensure that we are properly prepared for it.
“That means trying to get as many players available for the two ties we hope to play in and get a settled side together in the remaining league games and we want to win as many points as possible.
“We know that the Third Division sides will make life difficult for us but if we play to our strengths we can stay in the Second Division by winning the two ties.”
Meanwhile this Saturday Alloa Athletic come to Central Park as Cowden try to break a losing home run of six games.
Meanwhile the Wasps are trying hard to stay in the promotion play-off stakes but if they lose at Central Park it would almost certainly put a torpedo into their challenge.
Cowden have only a few minor knocks from last Saturday’s game and should be able to field a pretty strong side against Alloa.
